About Julian
Julian Lee De Vita has performed in prestigious venues across Canada, Germany, and Sweden, appearing in major concert halls in every Canadian province. He is an alumnus of the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, O/Modernt’s New Generation Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Scotia Festival of Music, and Tuckamore Festival. He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Vancouver Academy of Music, where he studied under Joseph Elworthy and Henry Shapard, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the University of British Columbia with Janet Steinberg. Julian is the recipient of full-tuition scholarships throughout his post secondary studies. He has performed under conductors Sascha Goetzel, Hugo Ticciati, Naomi Woo, Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, and Jonathan Girard. He is a three-time recipient of the Early Music Scholarship from Early Music Vancouver. He has performed in masterclasses for Johannes Moser, Sung Won Yang, Blair Lofgren, Ariel Barnes, and the Viano String Quartet, and in chamber music settings has collaborated with Jonathan Crow, Ian Parker, Rena Sharon, and Timothy Kantor. Locally, he has performed at festivals presented by Music on Main, Turning Point Ensemble, and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. Julian aims to create an environment where students are given the tools to practice effectively and excel in their progress. He prioritizes developing a tension free play style and for students to foster a love for music and positive relationship to the cello.
